About Chanson Hardware

Chanson Hardware is an architectural hardware company that sells traditional door and window hardware.  With quality in mind, our items are made of solid brass and available in several elegant finishes. Based in California, our mission is to provide timeless, understated hardware that can be used in a wide variety of settings, including historic homes.

Why we use brass?

For centuries, brass has always been a popular choice due to its strength, corrosion resistance, and visual appeal from its golden yellow shine. Compared to other metals, brass is highly workable, allowing it to be formed into intricate shapes without breaking.  Brass is used in a wide variety of applications from rough environments, such as marine applications, to lavish settings, such as jewelry.

Although alternative, economical metals are used in today’s hardware space, brass still prevails.  Inexpensive metals, such as zinc alloy, can often be mistaken for brass, especially if it’s brass plated.  While visually it may be insignificant on what base material is used, especially for coated or plated finishes such as flat black or nickel, there are inherent differences.  Brass is stronger and more durable than zinc alloy. Furthermore, brass is significantly heavier than zinc alloy, which adds a sense of solidity and luxury.
